The Future of Data Analytics
Through the development of an all-purpose social media mining tool, UN DPPA aims to enhance “social listening” capabilities to generate actionable insights, especially in conflict contexts where rumours can feed violence. For instance, a major focus of our social media analysis work in the current context of COVID-19 has been to understand better patterns of hate speech and social mobilization. This will contribute to the implementation of the DPPA-DPO Joint Action Plan on Hate Speech.
DPPA’s efforts related to data are centered on the Secretary-General’s Data Strategy, adopted in June 2020. The overall aim is to build a whole-of-UN ecosystem that unlocks our full data potential for better decisions and stronger support to sustain peace by leveraging data as a strategic asset.
